Sanctuary Song Fundraiser sold out!!
We were pleased that our event on February 11th was full to overflowing with supporters. In fact some people came for the silent auction and reception, as there was not a seat left in the theatre.
Joining forces with Zoocheck Canada, the Sanctuary Song evening offered ticket holders the opportunity to watch the heartwarming opera based on the true story of elephants reunited at an elephant sanctuary.
Highlights of the event included a special presentation to city Councillors Michelle Berardintetti, Glenn de Baeremaker, Raymond Cho and Shelley Carroll in recognition of all their work to rescue the elephants kept at the Toronto Zoo.
Many unique items were purchased at the silent auction. Laura Nashman performed live classical music on flute ; mouthwatering vegan and vegetarian food was catered by Veg Company’s chef Sara Harrel Guela Solow Ruda and her team of ARK architects’ plans for the Elephant Labyrinth museum, brought home the obvious fact that live elephants do not need to be kept forcibly in zoos; that we can learn about them through high tech state of the art exhibits.
Funds raised will go to the Toronto elephant campaign and to supporting conservation efforts to keep elephants in the wild.
Warm thanks to all silent auction contributors, the Sanctuary Song committee ,volunteers, donors, sponsors and Theatre Direct.

Lucy's life at the Valley Zoo is deficient in many respects. She is socially isolated, lives in a tiny barren enclosure, endures a number of ongoing health issues that the zoo has not been able to resolve and is forced to live through Edmonton's harsh winter. LEARN MORE
